RIP Don Mallinson
NewsRip Don Mallinson.

We all lost such a great man, friend, and parent.

Don was the reason why I started attending the SHO Convention starting in 2001. I always liked the SHO but couldn't figure out why would anyone take a week off and drive to a destination far away to spend a week with other car buffs, there are local shows that basically so the same thing but not really geared to just one car. Don explained to me how it's just SHOs, didn't have to deal with all the other cars and that this was an outstanding group of people, I was still skeptical and we went back and forth, Ron Porter had also helped push me to go but for another reason lol so I ended up deciding that I would drive 1300 miles to see what it was about. I was amazed at how much fun it was and the people as Don had said we're some of the best I have ever met. This was so much fun that I changed my entire life and geared it to going to 1 event every year, no matter what, where or what it cost.

Don and I Became friends right from the start, we always butted heads of well just about everything. I could piss him off and he would walk away and 10 minutes later he would walk up and Pat me on the back with a big smile. Lol. He could sense that I was going to start something and give me that look and I'd stop, well until he wasn't looking, but he knew that it was still going to happen. One of those things was from Memphis, I had one of my new diesels and well posi striped the entire parking lot, in and out of every parking lane, and all the way around the hotel, it was bad!! I even felt bad when I recovered and came out side the next day. He came walking over like your dad would just before you get punished as a child, I panicked... I said my trailer brakes locked up with a smile. Waiting to get thrown out, he looks at the lot, looks at me looks at the lot and looks at me, you could sense he was ready to explode, he taps me on the shoulder and said " you should get them fixed" and walked away. Every year after that he would ask if my trailer brakes were ok. Lol . Such a great guy.

Don, you changed my life by letting me into yours, Jan's, Ken's, and Don Jr's. Thank you for ALL you have done for me, and the SHO community. Words really can't describe the loss of your friendship, your leadership, your long winded discussions. Rest in Peace my friend.
